From the Locanda Casanuova you can travel down into “the village”, and visit the XII century origins of Figline Valdarno as an ancient fortified feudal village , through cobbled streets, its historic centre, and the shops, surrounded by its medieval city walls.
In our area you can discover the ancient Renaissance art of the Valdarno, from the Collegiata di Santa Maria Church with its Museum of Sacred Art, to the Serristori Hospital and the Palazzo del Pretorio, reaching the Museum of Rural Civilization in Gaville, an important view of peasant life of the time! Along the ancient Romanesque trail of the Setteponti, immersed in a unique Tuscan countryside landscapes, you will discover the beauty of seven Romanesque churches: Pieve a Pitiana, S. Agata, Cascia, Pian Di Sco’, Castelfranco, Gropina, San Giustino. Among these, we like to remember Pieve Di Gropina in particular, the most exemplary testimony of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany, set in the green and characteristic small village of Loro Ciuffenna.
At the same time, you will be amazed to discover that it is really in the Romanesque church of Cascia, where the Triptych of Masaccio is silently guarded, true expression of the first painting of the Florentine Renaissance.
Therefore, immersing yourself completely in the Renaissance atmosphere of the past, dedicating only one day to the majestic city of Florence may not be enough; a city that will captivate not only through its history, or for its infinite works of art, all of incredible importance.
