Dear Friends of the Locanda Casanuova,
The 43rd Casanuova season has come to an end. We have been on our winter break for a month now.
The hotel is closed, the lemons have moved to the Limonaia and the vegetable garden is dormant. We are still busy in the kitchen processing the produce from the garden and making jams that will enrich the menu next season.
In the farm, work continued seamlessly. After a difficult harvest due to the climate, the olives are being picked and most of them have already been turned into wonderful oil. Some of you will have already been able to enjoy it thanks to our dispatch, which began in mid-November. Thank you for the great response, but sales must continue as the yield this year is amazingly high. Our wines are also impressive:
Don’t hesitate to visit our online shop for wine and olive oil orders! https://shop.casanuova.info/en/home-english/
Another very intense season lies behind us with many interesting guests who created a cheerful and inspiring atmosphere. A big compliment to our audience, which is unique and for which we are very grateful. We were once again able to welcome many regular guests who appreciate our concept and feel at home from the very first moment, because (almost) everything remains the same here in a time of rapid change.
We are sticking to our motto ‘The beauty of simplicity’, while luxury has become a trend. We continue to care about the beauty of the house and gardens as well as good food. A healthy, balanced diet is becoming increasingly important, and we have emphasised this from the outset in the interests of our guests. Our organic produce, virgin olive oil and vegetables from our own garden make an important contribution to this. We also decided many years ago to alternate between vegetarian and meat menus. We are sure that these are all reasons why our cookery courses are so popular, which you can plan as a group or arrange with us during your stay.
A new experience last season was international groups coming regularly for wine and oil tastings and discovering our magical place. The local public has also learnt to appreciate us and enjoys coming to eat or celebrate parties.
In the vineyards, which Thilo nurtures with care, some vines have been replaced and new practices have been introduced, particularly to improve the soil. This makes the crops more robust and naturally also has an effect on the quality of the wines.
Thilo’s wines have already received various awards and are constantly improving.
In the summer, we were able to show a small, fine exhibition by the artist Ute Rakob from Vienna in our chapel: Works that she calls ‘traces’, traces of ‘passing’.
For next year, from 7 to 14 June, another week is planned under the motto ‘Gardens, Yoga and Cucina’, which is dedicated to exploring historical and modern gardens, combined with relaxing yoga and stimulating cooking. Please email or call for more information.
In spring, our swimming pond will be renovated, as new technology will ensure better water quality, which is necessary due to the increasingly hot summers.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and peace to us all.
In the hope of welcoming many of you back next year, we send our warmest greetings from sunny Tuscany.
